This week’s Member Spotlight is on Southernmost Insurance Agency, Inc.  Read their story and see what they told us about their business and the Chamber.  

Q: How many years have you been in business? 
A: Since 1951. That is over 70 years!

Q: Tell us a little bit about your business. 
A: We are a long term, local property & casualty insurance agency with a focus on helping individuals, families & businesses with their insurance needs.  Given our location in a tropical environment, we consider our business services are critical in the community in ensuring that Lower Keys families & businesses are financially protected from storms & other perils.

Q: What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know? 
A: Geographically, we REALLY were the Southernmost Insurance Agency – The first agency office was at 517 Whitehead Street back in the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s  – right across from the courthouse!

Q: As someone doing business in the Key West area, how does the chamber help you? 
​A: The Chamber is a great communicator & tool for us!  It provides us with local contacts, updates on business & economic trends in the city, information on business events, etc. 

Q: Do you have any advice for new business owners? 
A: I am a returned conch that left the island 30 years ago & worked in the insurance industry in Michigan, the Carolinas, & Florida.  Understand that the business environment & culture in Key West is unique, no matter what your business, do everything you can to learn the island life style & cultivate it within your business.  Numerous local contacts will provide you with numerous business successes!  

Q: When you’re not working, where in Key West do you like to spend your time? 
A: Fort Zach with family &/or friends or at one of the great restaurants/bars at Key West Harbor.
