This week's Black History Month Spotlight is on Carmen Turner, Owner of Henry's Barkalicious Dog Treats Here are some questions we asked Ms. Turner: Q: What is the most important event or milestone to occur in your lifetime?
A: . I have two: the first is the rise of social media as a cultural, political, and economic force. The second would be the election of people of color to our county’s two highest offices. Q: Who has been the most inspiring leader to influence you in your personal and professional career? A: I am not generally inspired by public figures. I am impacted more by people I see daily - friends, family, colleagues, people who make a difference in our community. Q: What is the most important conversation that the business community should be having? A: Conversations about responsible capitalism. We have one earth. We can support a strong economy without destroying it. Q: Do you have a favorite quote? A: Yes, and it’s one I use with my team members who are hungry for more. It also inspires me. “If you are not where you want to be, don’t quit. Instead, reinvent yourself and change your habits.” - Eric Thomas Q: Tell us a little bit about your business. A: We love our dogs in Key West! Henry’s Barkalicious Dog Treats sells gourmet dog treats baked in small batches with human-grade ingredients. Pups enjoy our signature peanut butter bones and blueberry oatmeal cookies, as well as our specialty dog cakes and other goodies. My dog Henry Flagler was the inspiration for this business, as well as its namesake. Though I lost him last month to cancer, he lives on through the business he inspired and the treats he loved. Visit our website at HenrysDogTreats.com or call or text 305-304-1861 for more information. You can find us at the Key West Artisan Markets for in-person shopping, and we are planning an expansion to several local retail outlets this year.
