KEY WEST, Florida Keys –  The monthly Nature is Art Workshop will take place from 10am to noon on Saturday, December 21, 2024.  Parents can register their school age children on line or that morning.  Space is limited to 15.  Cost is $10 which includes all materials.  Nature is Art uses natural, recycled or repurposed materials to make nature inspired creations which the participants can take home with them.

This is a family friendly event to introduce the Garden to our community of dog owners & dog lovers. With 15 acres of mulched and boardwalk trails meandering through forests and meadows we invite everyone to bring their dogs to enjoy the day.

​Highlights include: Florida SPCA Pet Adoption ~ Good Dog Obedience Training ~ FREE Mobile Grooming ~ Dog Friendly Vendors ~ Playground for the Kids ~ Information on plants that are safe for your dog. ‘A Screaming Green Halloween’ at the Key West Tropical Forest

Key West, Florida Keys – The annual 'SCREAMIN’ GREEN HALLOWEEN' at the Historic Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The Garden is open from 10am – 2pm for children to have a fun and safe ‘Trick or Treat’. Tricks, treats, games, and candy stations will be set up throughout the garden so kids can be in costume while exploring the Garden and participating in the hunt for treats! There will be two costume contests. Prizes will be awarded for ages 5 and under at 12:15 & ages 6 – older at 1:15. Entrance Fee: $5 per child or $10 per family. Key West Botanical Garden members FREE.

KEY WEST, Florida Keys – The Lower Keys Fall Migration Mania - Birding and Wildlife Adventure will take place at the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden on Saturday, September 28th 7:00 am to 11:30pm.
Flock to the historic Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden to witness the natural wonders of the annual fall migration by attending the Lower Keys Fall Migration Mania Birding & Wildlife Adventure. For the 16th year, be a citizen scientist learning as you enjoy species identification guided tours at one of the most iconic bird and butterfly hotspots in the lower Keys. Key West, Florida Keys – GET YOUR SPOOKY ON! The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is calling for artists, amateurs, students, businesses, and professionals to create for the 6th Annual “Scarecrows in the Forest Art Exhibit and Contest” which runs September — November 30, 2024.

Registration required through August 30, 2024, with installations by appointment through September 1, 2024. Scarecrows will be created using natural, recycled, and repurposed materials. Each entry eligible for Best in Show CASH Prize.

KEY WEST, Florida Keys – The Native Plant Nursery at the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden will be holding its monthly native plant sale from 9am to Noon Saturday, August 17, 2024. Along with the plant sale, food waste for composting will be accepted. Master Gardeners on site to answer any plant questions.

Bring your food scraps to support composting in the Keys pilot research and educational collaboration with the UF/IFAS Monroe County Extension. Food waste will be accepted every 3rd Saturday during the plant sale. Acceptable items: Fruits, Vegetables, Grains (Pasta, Bread, Rice), Coffee grounds & Egg Shells. No Meat or Dairy.

The Nursery has 160 species of native trees, shrubs & vines available including Native & Cuban palms, and vegetable plants.  The total nursery inventory totals more than 2,000 plants which attract birds, butterflies and other pollinators in 1-gallon to 15-gallon pots.  Key West Botanical Garden members receive a 15% discount.  Memberships are available on site.  The Garden is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation and all proceeds directly benefit the Garden’s conservation program.

​KEY WEST, Florida Keys – The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden continues its monthly Speaker Series at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 20th, 2024 in the Toppino Nature Chapel.   The May speaker is Katy Hosokawa, Park Ranger, National Key Deer Refuge: Conservation.  Her topic is “Where People & Wildlife Thrive-The National Wildlife Refuge system”.  Katy will share some of the rich history of the National Wildlife Refuge System, talk about some of the work being done in the Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuge Complex, and why it all so important.
 
Katy is a native Texan with a  bachelor’s degree in geography and a master’s degree in Environmental Geoscience.  She has been working at the refuge since 2020.   Living with-in a mosaic of protected lands is a unique and beautiful experience, and Katy will share some of the highlights.
 
Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members.  All proceeds directly benefit the Garden’s conservation program. Sponsored by:  Florida Arts & Culture and The Monroe County Tourist Development Council.
