Award winning artist Michel Delgado returns to Jag Gallery with a new body of work when AGITATED CURIOSITY arrives at Jag Gallery on Saturday December 7th. A long standing member of the Key West art community, Delgado is internationally recognized for his vibrant, evocative and very personal work, which as the artist states, “comes from a place within me that is constantly loud and growing”, filling his canvases with intense and basic colors, crisply painted figures and shapes and meticulous detail.
In addition to his many awards, Delgado most recently has been named recipient of an Individual Support Grant from the prestigious, New York based Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, one of 20 artists selected from 47 countries. Duval Square’s JAG Gallery has announced honorees celebrating creative excellence in this year’s SMALL WORKS exhibit which opened on November 2nd. First introduced by artist and JAG Gallery founder Letty Nowak at her former gallery, The Lemonade Stand Art Studio in Bahama Village, SMALL WORKS is now in it’s 17th year, recording an unsurpassed number of entries culminating in a juried exhibition of 200 stunning works from 150 artists nationwide.
This year’s Judge’s Choice was awarded to Seattle based painter Tom McIntire for his TINY PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST WHEN TINY with Honorable Mentions to Minneapolis artist Keven Lock for his mixed media PINK HARBOR and to two Key West art makers, Jordan-Mannix Lachner for her acrylic painting PETRONIA STREET 1963 and Tim Curtis for his assembled piece MANATEE TAIL. Honored at the exhibit's opening reception on November 2nd with a trophy for the Judge’s Choice Award was Tom McIntire from Seattle, WA for his 3 x 3 inch acrylic and latex painting on scrap pine, TINY PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST WHEN TINY. Honorable Mention trophies were awarded to Minneapolis, MN based artist Keven Lock for his 10 x 10 inch acrylic and pencil on cradled board titled PINK HARBOR and to Key West’s Jordan-Mannix Lechner for PETRONIA 1963, acrylic on canvas, 10 x 10 inches and to Tim Curtis for MANATEE TAIL assembled from reclaimed bronze propeller, stainless steel and wood 7 4.5 x 1.5 in. Sharon, no stranger to the Key West art community, opened the former Lemonade Stand Art Studio in Bahama Village partnering with friend, fellow artist and Jag Gallery founder Letty Nowak in 2001. She is an internationally recognized artist, found in prestigious private and public collections and in museums and galleries in the US and abroad, and has been the recipient of multiple grants and residencies. Known for her richly layered, evocative oil paintings utilizing simple palettes and subtle tones, Sharon’s land and seascapes are grounded deeply in a sense of place where her portraits, on the other hand, capture the essence and personality of a wide variety of people, both real and imagined, often with a tongue in cheek hilarity. Today Sharon lives and paints in Portland, Maine and in addition to Jag is represented by galleries on Maui and Cape Cod. WELCOME BACK is on view through October 27th.
