MONROE COUNTY, FL – Beginning Oct. 1, 2025, Monroe County will transition its Social Services Transportation Disadvantaged Program to the Guidance/Care Center, Inc. (GCC). This change consolidates all of Monroe County’s Special Transportation Services under a single provider to improve efficiency, coordination, and service delivery.
Eligible riders include seniors aged 60 and older and those needing assistance with critical trips. Services will prioritize trips to medical and health appointments, meal sites, public assistance, grocery shopping, employment, and other approved programs. By focusing on these priorities, the program will continue to support health, independence, and quality of life for residents countywide. “This transition strengthens service delivery and coordination,” said Monroe County Community Services Director Cathy Crane. “By consolidating services under the Guidance/Care Center, Monroe County is ensuring reliable and accessible transportation for residents throughout the county who need it most.” For more than two decades, GCC has served as the county’s designated state-required Community Transportation Coordinator, providing transportation services from Key West to Key Largo and arranging connections to Miami-Dade. Social Services will continue to support residents through its intake process, making direct referrals to GCC for transportation services. For referrals and information, email [email protected] or call 305-292-4408. Beginning Sept. 22, residents may also contact the Guidance/Care Center at 305-434-7660 option #2 or visit www.guidancecarecenter.org for application assistance and to schedule rides starting Oct. 1 and beyond.
