ELINA SWEETING, KEY WEST HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE, PRESENTED $2,500 FAC SCHOLARSHIP

Sweeting joins the Board of County Commissioners, FAC Executive Director Ginger Delegal, and her father and younger sister.

MONROE COUNTY, FL – Monroe County Mayor Pro Tem Michelle Lincoln, newly inducted President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC), has awarded the 2025 FAC Presidential Scholarship to Key West High School graduate Elina Sweeting. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence and a commitment to public service, and was presented in honor of Lincoln’s role as this year’s incoming president.
 
The applicants were required to be a child of a Monroe County Board of County Commissioners employee, demonstrate academic achievement, show interest in a career in public service, and be accepted to a Florida college or university.
 
Sweeting, daughter of Monroe County Firefighter Oliver Hodek, was selected from a competitive pool of applicants by the scholarship committee. She graduated with a weighted GPA of 3.45 and is going to Valencia College in Orlando, where she plans to pursue a degree in meteorology.
 
“Elina embodies the spirit of this scholarship and is dedicated, passionate, and committed to public service,” said Lincoln. “Her academic achievements, leadership in the arts, and drive to serve others make her a truly deserving recipient.”
 
Throughout high school, Elina was an active member of the Key West High School band, even marching in London’s New Year’s Day Parade. She also volunteered extensively with the Bahama Village Music Program, contributing to fundraisers, parades, and summer camp events. A uniquely Keys distinction: She is a two-time reigning champion of the Key West Conch Blowing Contest.
