Junk in the Trunk Returns October 17—Just in Time for Fantasy Fest and Halloween

10/14/2026

Truman Waterfront Community Yard Sale kicks off its fall season with costumes, collectibles and secondhand treasures
KEY WEST, FL — Got a closet full of old costumes? A garage full of things you no longer need? Turn that clutter into cash when the Truman Waterfront Community Yard Sale: Junk in the Trunk returns Saturday, October 17, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Truman Waterfront Park.

With Fantasy Fest and Halloween right around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity to recycle old costumes, props and decorations. Bring out the wigs, masks, accessories and spooky décor from celebrations past and give them a new life. Whether you’re selling pieces you no longer use or shopping for an affordable way to dress up and decorate, one person’s stored-away collection could be another’s inspiration.

And it’s not just costumes. Junk in the Trunk is a waterfront treasure hunt featuring household goods, furniture, tools, vintage finds, collectibles and the unexpected bargains that make a community yard sale worth exploring.

For sellers, it’s as easy as loading up the vehicle and heading to the waterfront. No strangers at your house, no neighborhood signs to put up and no need to spend the whole weekend hosting a sale. Sellers keep 100% of their sales proceeds, and spaces are assigned as participants arrive.

Advance registration and prepayment are strongly encouraged. Spaces are $20 for a standard trunker and $30 for an oversized vehicle or trailer. Sellers who have not pre-registered pay an additional $10, subject to space availability. Load-in begins at 6:00 AM, with shopping from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Established resale vendors, vintage and collectible dealers, and nonprofit organizations are also welcome with advance registration.

Shopping is FREE, with no admission or registration required. Parking at Truman Waterfront Park is free with a residential parking sticker.

Upcoming Junk in the Trunk dates include November 21 and December 5 and 19. Both December events will feature Holiday Re-Gifting Sales, offering a chance to turn unused gifts into someone else’s perfect find and shop for thoughtful presents on a budget.

Costumes, Community & Secondhand Treasures: Junk in the Trunk Returns October 17

10/5/2026

KEY WEST, FL — The Truman Waterfront Community Yard Sale: Junk in the Trunk returns Saturday, October 17 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Truman Waterfront Park, kicking off the fall season with a special Fantasy Fest Costume Swap.

With Fantasy Fest just around the corner, it’s time to dig into those closets, costume bins and storage units. Bring out the costumes, wigs, masks, accessories, props and decorations from celebrations past and turn them into cash — or come shop for the pieces that might inspire this year’s look. Buying, selling and repurposing pre-loved costumes gives them another moment in the spotlight while offering a fun, affordable way to gear up for Fantasy Fest.

The Costume Swap is an added feature of the regular Junk in the Trunk market, so there will still be plenty of everything else to discover. Residents sell directly from their vehicles along the Quay, creating an ever-changing treasure hunt of household goods, décor, tools, vintage finds, collectibles and all the unexpected things that make a good yard sale worth exploring.

Selling is designed to be easy. Clean out the house, load up the car and bring it down. Sellers are placed as they arrive, keep 100% of what they make and can register in advance to save a few dollars or simply drive up the morning of the sale if space is available. Pre-registered yard sale spaces are $15 for a car, $20 for a truck or SUV and $25 for a van or trailer; drive-up spaces are $5 more. Load-in begins at 6:00 AM and sellers should be ready for shoppers by 8:00 AM.

Businesses and established resale, antique, vintage and collectible vendors are also welcome with advance registration, as are nonprofit organizations looking for an easy fundraising opportunity.

For shoppers, there’s nothing to register for — just come ready to browse, bargain and see what turns up. The market runs from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and parking at Truman Waterfront Park is free with a residential parking sticker.

Following the October return, three more Junk in the Trunk markets are scheduled for the holiday season:

October 17: Fantasy Fest Costume Swap
November 21: Truman Waterfront Community Yard Sale
December 5: Holiday Re-Gifting Sale
December 19: Holiday Re-Gifting Sale

The December markets will put a holiday spin on the same reuse-and-repurpose concept. Those perfectly good gifts that never quite found a home can become someone else’s great find, while shoppers can hunt for unique and budget-friendly presents without adding more new stuff to the world.

Junk in the Trunk was created as an easy alternative to hosting a yard sale at home and has grown into a casual Saturday morning gathering where neighbors can clear out clutter, make a little money, find unexpected treasures and keep useful items in circulation.

With summer temperatures approaching and many seasonal residents heading north, these June dates will be the final Junk in the Trunk markets until the fall. The market is expected to return in October with a special Community Costume Swap Edition designed to help locals prepare for Fantasy Fest. Residents are encouraged to start digging out costumes, accessories, props, wigs, masks, and decorations that may be tucked away in closets and storage bins. The themed market will provide an opportunity to buy, sell, swap, and repurpose Fantasy Fest gear, giving old costumes a second life while helping inspire new creations for one of Key West's most beloved annual traditions.

Junk in the Trunk Truman Waterfront Community Garage Sale Conch Republic Edition Saturday, April 18

4/13/2026

Key West, FL — The Truman Waterfront Community Garage Sale: Junk in the Trunk returns on Saturday, April 18 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Truman Waterfront Park, building on the momentum of a debut event that brought out more than 30 local sellers.

What began as a simple “clean it out and sell it” concept has quickly taken on a life of its own — part treasure hunt, part neighborhood meet-up, and part early-morning excuse to be by the water.

This weekend’s event is part of the larger Conch Republic Days celebration, Key West’s annual tongue-in-cheek “secession” festival that blends island humor, community events, and a full slate of activities across town. Adding to the energy, the garage sale will share the park with an Earth Day 5K hosted by the Key West Southernmost Runners Club, benefiting the Conch Republic Marine Army. With more than 200 runners expected, the added foot traffic means even more people walking through, shopping, and discovering what local sellers have to offer.

Shoppers can expect an ever-changing mix of household goods, vintage pieces, collectibles, and unexpected finds — the kind of items that make you stop, look twice, and say “I’ll take it.” It’s casual, a little unpredictable, and exactly what a garage sale should be.

Keep Key West Beautiful returns as the featured nonprofit, handing out free reusable shopping bags while reinforcing the event’s focus on reuse, repurposing, and keeping good items in circulation.

For those looking to clear space at home, participation is easy. Sellers can arrive the morning of and be placed as they come in, or register in advance to save a few dollars. No setup at home, no hassle — just pull in, set up, and start selling.

For everyone else, it’s a laid-back way to spend a Saturday morning — browsing, bargain hunting, and connecting with the community. Free parking is available with a residential sticker.

The Truman Waterfront Community Garage Sale is expected to continue on the first and third Saturdays of each month, as long as participation keeps growing.
